Why Chocolate Milk Works Post Workout?

Its Surprising!

Guys im telling you, Chocolate Milk is a major rival for those protein shakes and powders post workout.

Chocolate milk has been identified as the ultimate post-workout drink. When you compare it with the other competitors, it pretty much stacks up. However, when you analyze its simplicity, low cost and of course, taste, chocolate milk body slams the rest! Ding Ding that’s a KO!

To back this up – Physiologist Joel Stager, director of the Human Performance laboratory at Indiana University confirmed this in his research published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism.

The Benefits

It’s been known that chocolate milk serves a high concentration of water to replenish lost fluids. But its also loaded with extra goodness to enhance your recovery rate post-workout. The ratio of carbs to protein found in chocolate milk make it an ideal recovery drink, hitting that ‘sweet spot’ instead of just plain milk.

Ideally if your working out like an absolute beast in the gym then hey why not get some chocolate milk down your neck!. Now I don’t mean a professional, just someone who gets involved in some rigorous training. So remember what I say here – rigourous so don’t be drinking it if you plan to lose weight and spend your time walking on the treadmill.

The reason it’s suited to a particular type of athlete or training routine is that the athlete needs a higher than normal level of protein, carbs and calories. And that’s why Chocolate milk can provide this instead of just water!

Now before you say “what’s wrong with just sweet H20”? Well people, water just hydrates you and that’s it. So to summarize it all –  chocolate milk is a great alternative, and gives your body enough carbs, protein and calories to boost recovery and make those gains!

By the way if your wondering what type of Chocolate Milk, just try any at your local supermarket with the LOWEST fat content.

So let me know how it goes Facebook or Instagram– Im going to try it a few times just to change it up.

As always #livebetter

I love chocolate milk and while it reminds me of my childhood I would have never have equated it with a ‘workout’ that is one way to get pumped. Such a cool idea x

So funny, someone was telling me about this just last week! I think it makes sense and TBH, I could never really get into any of the protein shake I’ve tried (not that I’ve tried many lol). I’ll take the chocolate milk, hold the workout please!

Yeah… when you push yourself your body can handle a lot of things that it normally wouldn’t. Easy walking on the treadmill is not going to burn the kind of calories you need to take care of things like a rich chocolate milk.

Now that’s something I needed to read. Thanks for that I shall now be adding chocolate milk as my post training drink very happily. I might just have a tiny bit though no point putting back those calories straight after the workout.

if its a heavy workout and really intense then there should be no problem having it – its not an everyday thing but it just changes it up a bit and it actually helps

The most delicious alternative drink to water after doing the exercise! I wonder about the amount of chocolate milk needed for this specific suggestion.

just grab a bottle and thats enough – remember you won’t really need it unless you had a really intense workout

I’m a huge fan of chocolate milk, so maybe this will serve as my excuse to have it every now and again. In fact, I started at CrossFit a couple of weeks ago. I’m telling you .. if that isn’t a workout that deserves a bit of chocolate milk, I don’t know what is!

I admit I do love chocolate milk but as long as it’s lactose free. I think I’d be worried though because all the store brands are so full of additives and preservatives that it’s not just the protein and post-wprkout benefits. But still chocolate milk sounds better than Gatorade lol!

I love chocolate milk, although I don’t work out so I guess I’m not really earning it before I drink it! It’s great that it’s considered a good post work out drink though, I could get on board with the gym if that followed!

I usually avoid working out because I feel lazy. But lately I am gaining weight so I think it is high time I start going to the gym. Good thing I came across this article. I will try chocolate milk after my wok out session.

Chocolate milk after a work out is something I am on board with. I love that it tastes good but also makes for a good replenisher

Interesting! I’m not a fan of chocolate milk but I’m sure sharing this with my other half will convince him to come to the gym with me tomorrow!
