The 15 Cheapest Countries To Visit (2018 Travel )

Trials and Tribulations

When you think about the words “budget travel,’ to me I get a bad feeling in my stomach because I fear what’s coming. It brings up images of old busted bus rides, bug-infested hostel beds and struggling on the bare minimum. And these are not the kind of trips you parade on instagram to the sighs of the envious crowds. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED……

But it doesn’t mean it is all bad right. There are so many wanderers out there who see the world, backpacking or simply exploring cheaper destinations without breaking the bank. It can be done and has been done and is continuing to be done daily.

This year’s World Economic Forum (WEF) Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report have recently named the cheapest countries to visit in 2017.

So, this report comes out every 2 years, and it estimates the relative health of 136 leading countries’ tourism sectors. By using a variety of variables such as safety and security, natural resources, cultural resources, health and hygiene, soundness of infrastructure, and price competitiveness.

“The World Economic Forum has, for the past 11 years, engaged key industry and thought leaders through its Aviation & Travel Industry Partner Community to carry out an in-depth analysis of the Travel and Tourism (T&T) competitiveness of economies around the world,”

“The resulting Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report provides a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue with the objective of achieving a strong and sustainable T&T industry capable of contributing effectively to international economic development.”

The highest-ranking countries in the price competitiveness category are the top destinations. And specifically, for those of you who want to travel on the cheap without the hassles of “budget travel.”

The Verdict

The top 20 cheapest places to visit now are in the gallery above, what do you think??? (Comment below.) I am not sure I would go to some of these countries. I guess I have so many on my list to discover, that unfortunately these countries didn’t make the Lifestyle Rebel list –  JUST YET!

Some interesting places there. Many of them I wouldn’t normally even consider as my holiday destination, such as Mongolia or Botswana. I’d love to visit India and Indonesia one day, these two are definitely on my list and they are cheap once there, wheey.

These are not the countries I thought of being cheap– I have to be honest. I have looked into flights into Indonesia and they are super expensive. But I guess that is the main expense there.
