Eurostar: London to Amsterdam Route

London to Amsterdam Anyone?

You might be pleased to know that direct Eurostar trains between London and Amsterdam are coming this year! Its about time folks. I always felt that more opportunities to head into Europe should be looked at, and now more and more routes are being added each year!

There will be a choice of two trains a day, with possible stops in Rotterdam, Antwerp and (Amsterdam) Schiphol Airport.

But hold the excitement – the journey takes around 4 hours! That’s right I said 4 hours compared to the 45 minutes by plane. So because of the time difference, allow ‘five hours’ for London to Amsterdam service, and just ‘three hours’ for the return trip.

I think the first services will be running later this year, so it could be possible to visit Amsterdam for festive shopping. I’m pretty Europe has some of the best Christmas markets out there (second to London of course!!! )

I did try to contact Eurostar, but they didn’t disclose the cost of the tickets. (that’s outrageous.) But I am assuming that it will be similar to other destinations that are already in operation – I cant imagine it will be any cheaper, however look out for possible price wars with airlines from London to Amsterdam.

So for you bloggers and entrepreneurs out there – WIFI & ENTERTAINMENT will be on board. I have no idea what “entertainment’ means in their terms but hey you could be lucky with a theatrical performance of swan lake!!!

The e320 trains already run from London to Paris – and according to the – Nicolas Petrovic chief executive of Eurostar said:

“The introduction of the e320 on the Brussels route marks an important milestone in the travel experience for customers.

“With demand for high-speed rail over plane on the increase we are gearing up to expand our reach to Amsterdam and Rotterdam.” This weekend, the new e320 trains will start running between London and Brussels.

I think the new trains must be super comfortable and modern so at least that is some positive news, and the option to travel by train becomes more attractive every year.

Also be on the look out for London to Bordeaux! I hear big things about that city and being one of the best for 2017! So that route is in operation from the summer so if you do happen to use the service please let me know your thoughts.

It looks like your next overseas break could well be completely airport free –  now that’s more like it!!

As always  –  #livebetter

I live in a country that the railroads are all but abandoned going out of the country. But I always love to travel by train!

Four hours compared to 45 minutes is quite a time difference. Although if you take into account all the time it takes waiting at airports, it’s probably not so bad. I must admit, I generally prefer train travel to flights so it gets my vote!

Not sure how I feel about the four hour journey but if it is much cheaper than the planes I would be down for it, Especially as it has street art, Anne Frank and Culture x

I am sure that this would be exciting. I would love to have a train like this in the US taking me across the country. We just don’t have anything like that here.

Wow I didn’t know this was an option. I did it by boat once, never again. At least I know know I have 2 options, train or flying next time I decide to go.

I have always admired long travels. And the idea of train travel, although I haven´t had a chance to experience it. Hope to experience this soon.

I wish we had more of these kinds of trains in the U.S. I’d use them in a heartbeat. Certainly you can get there faster by plane, but the airport scene isn’t peaceful and by the time you check in/etc .. I wonder how much true time savings there really is. If I’m ever in Europe, I’d love to take a ride!

Travelling by trains is more fun than by planes. I think Europe has the most stylish trains in the world. I like the shape of the Euro Star and would love to have a ride in it someday. 🙂

Brilliant news! I love the Eurostar, I remember taking the Eurostar to France when i as 13, it was great! However that being said…it will all depend on the price. If it’s more expensive that flying then i’ll have to love it but leave it! Thanks for sharing, good to stay updated on these changes.
