5 Reasons why you should Jump Rope!


Who doesn’t love to Jump Rope!

I wanted to write this because of an incident today  — jump rope is like getting an all-in-one strength-building, HIIT cardio machine that also prevents sports injuries, and it costs basically nothing. A woman in the gym today stated that “isnt that a kiddies play toy” to which I replied “what are you smoking’!

Jumping rope is awesome for any workout, and there are a few reasons why you should try to include it in your workout. 

Jumping rope isn’t just for the playground (gym woman!) or just a warm up exercise —so here are my reasons as to why it can be classed as a big player!

1. Building Strength

Being active and healthy is about overall fitness, and everyone knows that fitness and weight loss are two totally different things; simply losing weight isn’t essential for how to get fit!

The real advantage of skipping is that its an easy exercise to take up for beginners, wondering how to get stronger. Just 30 minutes can build strength, and enhance overall muscle tone. It is like a daily mini-workout in one, especially for the arms and legs — your quads, delts, and hamstrings all reap the benefits.

2. HIIT Cardio

Jumping rope is a really effective as high intensity interval training (HIIT).

HIIT cardio — also known as high-intensity intermittent exercise — burns more calories to lose weight right. So in terms of burning calories through aerobic exercise, you can’t go wrong with skipping!

3. Full-Body Exercise for Beginners

This is basic training so it’s ideal for beginners to include as part of their workout plan. It’s also a good dynamic core exercise, I definitely feel my abs when I do it.

4. Injury Prevention

This is a great reason alone to take up this exercise.

So skipping is great for your core and legs as I explained earlier. So as well as improving foot coordination, it strengthens your ankle and feet areas which are susceptible to injury. Why do you think boxers or football players include this in their workout? They have to do so many sharp moves and turns as part of their sport – and that can put a lot of strain on the muscle tissue over time. Jumping rope helps strengthen those muscles thus reducing injuries.

5. No Gym Needed

You don’t need a gym to jump rope –  you can do it at home – a hotel room – your garden and even when you travel wherever you want!

And there you have it! Add this to your workout whether you’re a beginner or advanced and to the lady from the gym – stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

    I used to jump the rope a lot when I was a child and someone told me that it will help me increase my height and I wanted to be taller, so I did that a lot.

    Oh wow, i really have this thoughts actually… I was never engage to any exercise and I am planning to hit the gym real soon but I always have this thought that maybe I should start on something light like daily jogging and jumping rope.. I saw some people doing it on their daily exercise routine.. it’s a good cardio exercise and I might have to buy a jumping rope soon..

    I used to love skipping with a rope when I was a child and was quite good. Using it now as an adult as a means of keeping fit really appeals to me and I’m surprised I didn’t think of it myself. Lots of boxers use rope skipping as a serious tool to keeping fit so if its good enough for them and its good enough for you well then ….its good enough.. Thanks!

    Jumping rope is one of the best parts of my workout, it reminds me of when I was little so it’s quite fun and it’s excellent for burning calories and doing some cardio.
    I can o it inside my house or outside so it’s always perfect! Thank you for sharing all the other benefits too, didn’t know most of them.

    I never knew that jump rope could prevent injury but it makes sense. I guess you are right when you say that it improves foot co-ordination which prevents injury. All the more reason to exercise x
